Music Release of the year:
I loved the Rancid album …Honor Is All We Know, packed with tough sharp tunes, worth the wait I reckon. Also SLF’s No Going Back was superb. Other albums I thoroughly enjoyed – This Means War by the Old Firm Casuals, the Buzzcocks’ The Way, and was Louise Distras this year or last? Can’t remember, at my age time flies so…
Best gig of the year: Probably Cock Sparrer at the 12 Bar. Roy Ellis was tremendous at Rebellion, as were ATV and The Cundeez.
Biggest disappointment of the year/worst release: Do I need to make any more enemies?? Probably not but catching up with Jello Biafra again after thirty years was a let-down, as was.and realising he’s actually a bit of a dick.
Some other thoughts on the scene of 2014? Did something special, bad, sad or spectacular happen?
Good people dying, Colin Mcquillan, Tommy Ramone, Dave Legeno, Bob Casale, Joe Young of ANTiSEEN, Dave Gregg of DOA, Tony Class…too many too young. On the plus side there are some great new bands coming through like the Bishops Green, Duffy’s Cut and the Bar Stool Preachers and in April I saw Lee Wilson buy a pint. Just the one.
What's your plans for 2015:
The Gonads new album Greater Hits Volume 3 – The Complete Cobblers should be released around Easter time, with a bumper book of the Gonads to follow. I’m helping sort out some charity gigs for Crisis. Plus I’m writing part two of my Riff-Raff Rebels & Rock Gods book, so that could see the light of day next August. Street Sounds issue ten comes out about 5th February
