(Charge 69 - Much More Than Music CD - Combat Rock Records) En udda "best of", där francosernas egna "idoler" tolkar deras gamla låtar på engelska. Det är tveklöst en ganska kul ide, och det måste såklart ha känts som en stor ära för Charge 69 - som i Frankrike är veteraner - att få med sig en så imponerande samling legendariska punkprofiler på projektet, bland andra TV Smith, Beki Bondage, Colin Abrahall, Charlie Harper, Micky Fitz och Roger Miret. Resultatet är trevlig lyssning, men någonstans hade jag hellre sett ett nytt album med Charge 69 på franska. Musiken är som vanligt en mix av 77-punk och melodiös 80-talspunk fast producerat för en ny tid. De låtar som sticker ut är framför allt dängorna med Beki Bondage (Rock Star Attitude), Micky Fitz (Authority) och Colin (The 80's), mest för att det utan problem skulle kunna vara låtar av och med respektive (dagens) Vice Squad, The Business och GBH. Charge 69, som spelat punk sedan 1993 och vars rötter kan spåras till mer eller mindre stilbildande och legendariska band som Les Cadavres, Molodoi och PKRK lär tuffa på ett tag till. Jag har haft kul under lyssningen på Much More Than Music, men ser som sagt fram mot nytt material av bandet.

Twenty two years after their inception, CHARGE 69, the revered French punk rock band are set to release a fabulous and fascinating new ‘Best Of’ record, featuring 10 punk luminaries singing the band’s own songs, not in French, as per the originals, but in English. This really is a ‘Best Of’ collection with a difference, fully deserving of its title: ‘Much More Than Music’. The project will be completed in two phases, with volume two planned for later this year. Collaborating with the musicians that influenced CHARGE so much over the years, has resulted an album beyond their wildest dreams. Caps, founding member and bass player Hearing our songs sung in English by these guys has been a revelation for us, it’s like someone gave us the keys to the candy shop, Much More Than Music, the dream come true – and a concept never done before – Jon CAFFERY was personally chosen by the band to produce and mix the whole album, which was recorded over various dates in 2014, and he has done an amazing job.
